On skin boosters, and why we only offer two of them

Decision fatigue is real, and the skin booster market is a perfect example of it. Profhilo, Sunekos, Seventy Hyal, polynucleotides, microneedling, Juläine, Morpheus 8, lasers. All promising the same thing - collagen, elastin, glow, the most natural treatment - and all wrapped in before-and-afters that look uniformly promising. Which one is best? How do you pick? How do you avoid spending several hundred pounds on the wrong one? A few things worth thinking about, before you do.

Cost

Profhilo is around £450 for the initial course and £250 every four to six months after. Morpheus 8, polynucleotides, microneedling and Juläine are all considerably more - sometimes several thousand pounds for a course.

Downtime

Some boosters have little to none. Others involve a week of peeling and redness. That matters if you have a job, a face people see, or a holiday in three weeks.

Evidence

How long has the product been on the market? Are there clinical research papers behind it, or just glossy ads? A treatment that's been around for ten years and is still being recommended is telling you something a brand-new launch can't.

Speed of results

When will you actually see something? Some boosters work within weeks; others take months and several sessions before anything visible happens.

Profhilo & Sunekos - our two favourite skin boosters

What we use at Astral, and why

We offer two skin boosters: Profhilo and Sunekos. Both are backed by years of clinical research, both have strong safety data, both have little to no downtime, and both produce a visible shift in your complexion within a few weeks. We use them because they work, and we don't see the point in chasing the new thing for the sake of it. We do keep an eye on the market. We read the research. We ask clients about treatments they've tried elsewhere. So far, nothing new has been good enough to displace the two we already trust.

One more thing.

If you don't need to resurface your entire face because of scarring or significant pigmentation - don't. You can stimulate collagen perfectly well with Profhilo and Sunekos. Start at the first signs of ageing and you're already ahead of the game. Remember: aesthetic treatments are products. And products love a bit of marketing.

Skin booster consultations at Astral are complimentary. If you'd like to talk through whether Profhilo or Sunekos might be right for you, you can book one here.
